The mystery of Readers Digest

June 25, 2016 By Andrea Nelson

You don't have to spend much time around books before you run into copies of Readers Digest Condensed Books -- lots and lots of copies.  Like the magazine from which they took their name, the Readers Digest Condensed Books were hugely popular.  But we've always wondered why.  Isn't a good book something you want to … [Read more...]

When booking passage also meant the passing of books

April 7, 2016 By Dan Danbom

April 12 is the anniversary of the sinking of the Tittanic.  Thirty-seven months later, the Lusitania was torpedoed and sunk.  Coincidentally, each sinking had rare-book related aspects that reverberate to this day.  One of the Titanic passengers was Henry Elkins Widener.  Widener was a noted collector of rare books … [Read more...]

I had a great conversation with Dan while in the store. He was very friendly and knowledgeable. They’ve got a great selection of classics and lots of hard to find books. My only complaint is that I spend too much money when I go in!

If I could give ten stars, I would. This is the best bookshop I've ever been to. Not to mention the prices are amazing and Dan and his dog are wonderful. This shop has such a warm atmosphere and I will definitely be coming back and making this my go-to bookstore. :)

I almost walked by this store without even noticing it until my friend pointed it out and we went inside. I was having a hard day and needed some cheering up and immediately when I went in I was greeted by the sweetest pup and immediately knew I was in the right place. The books are all beautifully taken care of and such an awesome range of current releases and nostalgic books that I hadn’t seen or thought of in years. I spent at least an hour in there getting lost in the stacks, showing my friend books i loved, books i remembered from when i was a kid and books that sparked very specific memories. The overall vibe of the place is just what you expect from a local bookstore. Warm, classic and welcoming. I talked with Dan for a bit and he said he’d be on the lookout for specific books for me and also sent me a personalized letter in the mail thanking me for stopping by which made a hard day a whole lot easier. I can’t recommend the store enough. Books are such a special experience and shopping for them should be as well. If you’re looking to support local businesses, start here.
