Printed Page Bookshop

Named one of the top three best bookstores in Denver

Selling your books in the pandemic world

July 23, 2020 By Dan Danbom

These tips will help you when you offer your books to us for sale.

  1.  Take photos.  The more the better.  You don’t need to photograph copyright pages, or other internal features — just the books on a shelf is a good starting point.  Send the photos to:  theshop@printedpagebookshop.com.
  2. We’ll look at the photos and be able to quickly determine if we’re interested in looking at your books in person.  At that point, you can either bring the books in, or, depending on how many books you have and where you live, we can arrange for a visit to your home.
  3. Please don’t send us photos of books you want to keep.  (You’d be surprised how often that happens.)
  4. Try to have an idea what you want for the books.  Be wary of pricing your books according to what you’ve seen on the Internet.  Books are complicated.  Various editions, printings, states, issues….all can come into play.  And keep in mind that anything you see for sale on the Internet has not sold for the price listed.

We have never seen so many people offering so many books for sale. Whether it was all the time people had to clean out their houses, or the need for money, or maybe even deaths in the family — or maybe all of those — we are getting multiple calls every day from people wanting to sell books.  Still, we’re always looking for good books and always buying. Some things never change.

As an aside, we were talking with a fellow bookseller in Connecticut.  Connecticut was hit hard early with coronavirus.  He’s been isolated for months. He said his girlfriend won’t hold his hand, won’t allow him in her house, and won’t come into his.  It reminded me of my high school years.
